The Oakland Bay Bridge, San Francisco
The Bay Bridge (as known to locals), is a complex of bridges spanning San Francisco Bay in California. As part of Interstate 80 and the direct road between San Francisco and Oakland, it carries about 240,000 vehicles a day on its two decks. It has one of the longest spans in the United States. On March 5, 2013, a public art installation called "The Bay Lights" was activated on the western span's vertical cables. The installation was designed by artist Leo Villareal and consists of 25,000 LED lights. It will be on display nightly until the end of 2015. I feel fortunate to have been able to photograph the 'Bay Lights' before they are retired.
